Gambling, or betting, is when you place money (or something of value) on an event with an uncertain outcome. It’s usually done to win money or an item of worth. Examples include horse racing, bingo, the National Lottery, online gaming, and poker.
Now that most people have a mobile phone and internet access, gambling is increasing. It can be done anywhere – at home, on the bus, sat in a park. This means that it’s easier than ever to find yourself gambling more than you would want to.
There are different types of gamblers ranging from casual social gamblers (where gambling is just one of many things to do) to compulsive gamblers (who’ve lost all control over their gambling habits). Even social gamblers can experience changes in their mood if they lose. Those who have a problem with their gambling, however, are at a higher risk of stress, anxiety, and depression.
